Improving Your Home and Mind While Stuck Inside

As we traverse through this unpredictable and strange time in our world those of us who are “self-quarantining” can easily find ourselves bored at home. While it is very important to sit down, relax, and reflect at times, activity and productivity are also very important. Remaining active is vital to keeping our brains sharp and time always passes faster when a task is being done. Here’s some ideas for what you can do to help pass the time at home and be productive at the same time!

Rearrange a Room (Or More)

Remember when you were a kid and you took the time to rearrange your bedroom? It would feel like a whole new space and it was almost like a puzzle trying to work out where different furniture could fit and be moved. Now is a great time to recapture those feelings! Keep your brain and body moving by moving your furniture around and maximizing your space. This becomes even more fun and active if you have children, they will love spending the day imagining where everything could be moved.

Clean Up

This one can be taken as far as you’d like to. While a deep clean of every room including the bathrooms would definitely be a good thing, if you don’t want to spend your time cleaning toilets we understand. Cleaning takes many forms though as you can simply declutter your living room or bedroom or tackle that closet or attic that hasn’t been touched in years. Decluttering and cleaning is a very satisfying activity and definitely takes up time. You’ll feel much better when it’s done too!

Home Workout

This one will not make your house look any better but it will definitely pass some time and will improve both your mental and physical health. There is a ton of information online for you to find a good and effective workout with varying difficulties. Regardless of how intense the workout is, exercise is proven to help you feel happier both short and long term. Exercise increases levels of several hormones in your brain such as endorphins, serotonin and nor-epinephrine which all combine to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and depression as well as increase positive feelings and general happiness. Even something as small as jumping jacks or body squats can have a huge impact both physically and mentally.

We hope that these activities can help you occupy yourself while you are stuck inside. We encourage you all to take the proper precautions and be careful and responsible as we continue to learn more about the virus. Hopefully with these tips staying inside will end up being a productive time for you and your family.
